Internship Start Date: May 14, 2012

Internship Duties: Filled in for the Publications Director while she was out on maternity leave: Coordinated publications materials; printed, cut, and folded any in-house publication; wrote copy for and edited E-news and eblasts; managed the Department’s financial records; coordinated program advertising; etc. Additional tasks included setting up press interviews and managing social media accounts. Entertained the Theatre with haikus and limericks.    

Favorite Things About Signature: My hot and cold relationship with the office printer. And the productions, of course.   

Favorite Things About D.C.: The fact that cupcakes and frozen yogurt are available everywhere.  

General Cool Things About You: Can make an origami paper crane that’s roughly a centimeter in size.

If you were a salad, what kind of dressing would you have?: Depends on what’s in the salad…

In With the Interns: Cassandra

You met Cassandra before on From the Classroom when she was featured as Un-American's light board operator. Now, she's back as a high school intern at Signature Theatre. We thought we'd take this chance to get to know her a little better. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back Cassandra:

Long-Term Goals:  Go into theatre management and directing, eventually run my own theatre company.

Favorite Musical: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Favorite Play: Ruined by Lynn Nottage

Favorite Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean (1, 2, AND 3)

Internship: High School Internship

Internship Start Date: March 5th

Internship Duties: This past week I helped out the Marketing Department by placing Brother Russia and Really Really posters in the windows of Shirlington Village shops and restaurants and help prepare letters to go out to those on the mailing list. I also had a chance to look at the English and American translations of God of Carnage and took notes on the differences, picking up on the cultural changes but also differences in the theatrical choices. I also received the chance to sit in on a Brother Russia  rehearsal in which they rehearsed a number from the show and tweaked various technical aspects of the show.

Favorite Things About Signature: The rainbow lit stairs leading up the lobby, the coziest lounge in the world, the professional but still loving and community vibe Signature has (the people and the building itself)

Favorite Things About D.C.: Chinatown. Can metro/take the bus almost  anywhere, the vast amount of theatreopportunities available. Georgetown waterfront on a sunny day. Georgetown Cupcakes. The Kettlecorn popcorn at Eastern Market.

General Cool Things About You: I write original shows (music, dance and dialogue) with my best friends. I rock at lip synching. I can do some intense eye-browing-raising . Pretty amazing Jim Carrey as Count Olaf (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events) imitation.

You have been elected student body president. Give us the last 30 seconds of my acceptance speech: “…and lastly, as your student body president, I can guarantee that glitter will be a necessity to every event in order to ensure the utmost joy with each experience.
